
KAMPALA – The Makerere University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe has on Friday, March 1 hosted the team that represented the university and won the 2019 Jessup Moot National Rounds.
The team was accompanied by the Makerere Guild Speaker Mr. Isaac Kwagala. The School of Law hosted the National Rounds between February 15 to 16 this year and the winning team consisted of; Mr. Kansiime Mukama Taremwa, Ms. Rehemah Atwine, Mr. Jeffrey Kaddu, Mr. Kaleeba Aaron and Ms. Isabella Magina.
The team qualified to represent Uganda at the Jessup Moot Court finals due to take place from March 31 to April 6 in Washington DC.
Makerere beat the Uganda Christian University (UCU) Faculty of Law to emerge winners of the 2019 National Rounds, with Mr. Kansiime Mukama Taremwa being declared the best oralist.
Teams from Farou Bay College, Sierra Leone and the College of Juba, South Sudan were present at the National Rounds and also faced off in a Moot match before the judges.
Congratulating the winning team, Prof. Nawangwe thanked all five students for making Makerere proud. “The University will sponsor the team with up to $13,000 to represent the region at the world’s most prestigious Moot competition and we wish you all the best” he added.
