
GULU – The Member of Parliament for Mityana county Francis Zaake has been released on bail from the Gulu High court on Monday, March 4 after spending more than one week in remand at Gulu main prison.
Mr. Zaake was arrested on February 21 from Kampala and whisked to Arua then later produced in Gulu High Court from where he was then remanded to Gulu main prison.
He was released on a non-cash bail of UGX5m by Gulu High Court Judge Stephen Mubiru. Mr. Zaake’s three sureties Muwanga Muhammmed Kivumbi, Nnamirembe Bridget Ndagire and Daniel Mugambwa each with noncash UGX10m.
Mr. Zaake was represented by Counsel Komakech Andrew Kilama and Counsel Tony Kitara. The state was represented by Gulu resident state attorney Patrick Omia.
According to statement released by AIGP Grace Akullo, Mr. Zaake was arrested for jumping police bond given in 2018 from treason case. The treason case stemmed from the violent incident during Arua Municipality by-election where other 35 suspects including Kyandondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine), Jinja Municipality MP Paul Mwiru, Arua Municipality MP Kasiano Wadri among others were arrested and charged
