MUKONO – The Mayor of Mukono Municipality Mr George Fred Kagimu has said that he has not decided to contest for the Member of Parliament (MP) seat in the 2021 elections, where he would collide with opposition firebrand and current MP Betty Nambooze.
This comes after news made rounds a week ago that Mr. Kagimu, will seek to leverage on the wave of the People Power headed by youthful MP Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine to unseat Ms. Nambooze, a strong rooter for former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) President Dr. Kizza Besigye.
Mr Kagimu though conceded during an interview at his office on Monday that some People Power and DP leaders had asked him to contest against Ms Nambooze, he has yet to decide.
“When these leaders came to my home selling this idea to me, I asked them to give me some time to consult from different people about it,” he said.
Mr. Kagimu, who says he remains a strong DP supporter is however not entirely convinced by Ms. Nambooze’s leadership, saying its high time Mukono got a leader who will unite the people without segregating them regardless of party affiliations.
“I am a DP person but I connect with Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi because he is independent, but he has the influence and I am ready to work with such people,” he said.
