MUKONO – Mukono municipal council has received a new garbage truck donated by Lake Victoria Environment Management Project phase II (LVEMPII).
This comes at a time when there is poor waste management in the areas of Mukono and the fact that the available trucks are in bad mechanical condition.
The Mukono environmental officer Mr. George William Masengele, said: “There has been poor waste management in the areas of Wantoni, Bukerere Road, Collins Street, among others where Mukono generates 270 tonnes of rubbish every day.
He said that this has been the case because some people do not dump the rubbish in proper ways.
Mr. Masengele said: “With this new truck there is going to be good service delivery in the town.”
Mr. George Kagimu, the Mukono town mayor thanked Hon. Kibuule for the garbage truck.
He urged all leaders in Mukono to work together regardless of their political parties in order to make Mukono the best municipality in Uganda.
“We can make Mukono the best municipality in Uganda if we work together,” he said.
Mr. Kibuule asked the town leadership to identify areas where he could help; promising: “I will provide 100 public stand posts in two weeks in the identified areas with people who will sell water to others at a cost of one hundred shillings.”
