MBARARA – Police in Mbarara have kicked off investigations into circumstances under which unknown armed robbers entered dfcu Bank Mbarara Branch and took off with UGX10m from a businessman who had gone to bank it.
Mr. Samson Kasasira, the Police spokesperson for Rwizi region, confirms that they have started on investigations into the matter to ascertain how Mr. Sharif Kakooza was robbed of his money from the bank in presence of security personnel who are charged with guarding and subjecting whoever enters the bank to a thorough search before that person accesses the bank.
Mr. Kasasira noted that in most incidents businesspeople have been robbed in such manner. He asked them to always be conscious when carrying huge sums of money to the bank.
“We have already arrested the Askar Godwin Munanura who was guarding at the alleged time when Mr. Kakooza was robbed to help us in investigations, ” Mr. Kasasira said.
Mr. Kakooza, who deals in Bajaj Boxers in Mbarara Town, narrated that unknown person found him in the bank after he had filled the deposit slip, put a pistol on his neck before they moved him out into a waiting car and drove him away.

“They drove me in their car up to Booma Grounds, took my money and abandoned me there. When I came back to the bank to report to them what had happened security personnel chased me away and I reported at the police, ” Mr. Kakooza said.
However, it is not clear how these armed robbers dodged the security check and sneaked in with a gun.
The arrested Munanura whom we found at the police station refuted Mr. Kakooza’s claim saying that there is no one who entered with a gun. “I was checking everyone entering and there is no one who entered with a gun,” he said.
Efforts to talk to bank officials proved futile after security denied us the chance to access the bank premises.
