
KAMPALA – Ugandan music legend Jose Chameleon real name Joseph Mayanja together with some opposition leaders have on Tuesday, April 30 been denied a chance to visit the jailed Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine.
Mr. Mayanja who is looking forward to standing for Kampala Lord Mayorship come 2021 said that him and his colleagues have been denied clearance to see their friend who was sent to jail on Monday. Others include Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, Hon Betty Nambooze, Hon. Francis Zaake, among others.
“Today morning I woke up and went to Luzira Maximum prison to visit my comrade, Bobi Wine, I was informed that I had to get clearance from the Commissioner General,” said Mr. Mayanja in a statement.
“I tried to negotiate but it was all in Vain!,” he added.
Mr. Mayanja said that the only option now is to pray for Bobi Wine as the authorities hesitate.
“Nevertheless, I pray for you my brother, Be strong as ever,” adding that, “Thanks to everyone who has made effort to visit our brother.”
Bobi Wine was Monday afternoon arraigned before Buganda road magistrates’ court where grade one Magistrate Esther Nahirya read him charges including disobedience of statutory duties contrary to section 116 of the Penal Code Act and sent him Luzira prison till Thursday, May 2.

Bobi Wine, who was arrested as he reported to CID headquarters on Monday morning and later detained briefly at Naggalama police station in Mukono district, was later driven to Buganda road court amid tight security.
His attorney Asuman Basalirwa confirmed his client has been charged with protesting against the social media and mobile money tax last year!
The state alleges that on July 11, 2018, Bobi Wine together with several others still at large at City Square in Kampala disobeyed section 5 and 10 of the Public Order Management Act 2013 by holding a public meeting without adhering to the required criteria.
