KAMPALA – Makerere University has recalled over 5,000 students’ identity cards due to irregularities or missing details.
According to Mr. Alfred Masikye, Makerere Academic registrar, the Identity cards are to be reprinted by the university as a result of the errors including wrong registration numbers.
“It has been brought to our attention that a number of identity cards issued to 1st-year students have wrong programmes codes and registration numbers, Mr. Masikye said adding that College registrars have been instructed to retrieve such identity cards for correction and reprint at no cost.
“Any student who has not been received to retrieve his/her identity card for one reason or another should notify the College Registrar accordingly,” the Academic Registrar noted.
He identified some of the areas as wrong programmes, gender of the person, poor quality of the product and spelling errors for names.
The cards will be reprinted at no cost.
Meanwhile, materials for replacement of identity cards for continuing students have been procured.
Mr. Martins Ojok, whose ID card was recalled on told PML Daily that his Programme code, both registration, and students numbers were wrong. If not correct, this could cause a challenge as it does not match with the details in his admission and biodata.
Mr. Masikye said students in this category should report to the ID room at Senate Building from Tuesday, April 16, 2019.
