KAMPALA – Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has this morning been arrested at Kalerwe in Kampala as he headed to report to police Directorate of Criminal Investigations at Kibuli.
Bobi Wine was arrested after a crowd chanting ‘People Power’ continued to bulge as his supporters escorted him Kibuli CID headquarters to record a statement over allegations of inciting violence.
Police then fired teargas and bullets to stop a procession that was growing around Bobi Wine’s car.
“On the way to Naggalama police station where Bobi Wine is being taken currently under arrest,” his page administrator posted.
The singer turned motor-mouthed politician and now an opponent of long serving President Yoweri Museveni, is at war with the Police for stopping his concerts, a source of his livelihood.
Police allege that Bobi Wine incited violence and held unlawful assembly on Easter Monday in Busabala, Wakiso District.
“Inquiries are being conducted in the above quoted reference whereby on the April 22, 2019, you were allegedly involved in inciting violence and unlawful assembly in defiance of the Inspector General of Police guidelines during the preparation of Kyarenga Extra Concert at Busabala,” the letter that summoned him, reads in part.
Meanwhile, a big number of Police officers is visible on ground and anti-riot trucks have also arrived at in the city to quell possible riots.
A visit in the city showed heavy presence of military and police personnel armed to the teeth.
