KAMPALA – The Chief Registrar of the Judiciary, Ms. Esta Nambayo has tasked the Inspector of Courts to investigate reports of assault where Ag. Registrar planning and development Mr. Fred Waninda is accused of assaulting two journalists.
Mr. Waninda allegedly assaulted journalists including Mr. Hannington Kisakye of Smart 24 Television and Mr. Eric Yiga of Salt Television after a court session when they were trying to record people coming out of the courtroom on Wednesday, April 24, at Commercial Court in Kampala.
Ms. Nambayo said: “I have received media reports that the Ag. Registrar Planning and Development H/W Fred Waninda assaulted journalists on 24 April 2019 at the Commercial Court after appearing before Hon. justice Jane Elizabeth Alividza” reads the Chief Registrar’s letter dated 29 in part.
In a statement dated Monday, April 29, 2019, Ms. Nambayo has asked the Inspectorate to investigate the matter and present their findings within 7 days.
The Inspectorate of Courts is mandated to receive and investigate complaints of maladministration of justice against any staff of Judiciary and all judicial officers.
