KAMPALA -Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has urged Ugandans to use Good Friday as a reminder that suffering always leads to victory.
In a message posted on his Facebook page, the artiste-turned politician said that Good Friday, the day Christians mark the crucifixion of Jesus on the cross, comes when many opposition supporters are suffering persecution in the country.
“On this day, Christians remember the suffering and death of Jesus Christ on the cross. He was bruised for being righteous and killed for speaking the truth to the Pharisees and the other leaders of the time. As we remember His agony, may we reflect on our own lives and commit to living in the service of others, Bobi Wine wrote.
“This year’s Good Friday comes at a time when persecution of political activists in Uganda is at its peak. Dr. Stella Nyanzi is still incarcerated at Luzira prison. Our brother Sam Mugumya is still detained in the DRC. Many People Power activists are still languishing in jail. Some of our supporters in Mbarara are still in hospital, having been brutalized a few days ago as they celebrated our victory in the guild elections at Mbarara University. Police continue to foil FDC activities across the country. Together with colleagues, we continue to face illegal treason charges. To top it up, yesterday the Supreme Court sought to permit the continuation of this state of affairs by sanctioning Museveni’s life presidency project,” he added.
Nevertheless, Bobi Wine, who has since declared that he will stand for president in 2021, said that as Jesus triumphed, his supporters will also triumph.
“What Good Friday teaches us is that suffering never has the last word. Today is Good Friday, but Sunday will be Easter- a day of resurrection. Evidence that sadness may endure for the night, but joy comes in the morning. The forces of evil, however fearsome, cannot last much longer. Therefore we do not lose heart! Good Friday teaches us to be courageous in the face of intimidation, steadfast in the face of betrayals, and firm in the face of persecution- well knowing that in the end, good will defeat evil. From my family to yours, Happy Easter Holidays.”
