RUKUNGIRI – Traders in Rukungiri have been left in tears after a fire gutted maize milling factory and buildings on Kinyansano road Rwabanyambo in Southern division destroying billions businesses.
Among those destroyed include furniture workshops, metal welders among others. Eye witness claim that fire started from a shop owned by one Happy Frank which later spread to the milling machine and then to all nearby buildings.
They further added that this fire broke out at around 11am by the time police’s fire brigade came a lot had been destroyed.
Moses Nanoka the district police commander has confirmed the fire outbreak and has attributed it to a gas cylinder in one of the shop which later spread like wild fire.
We have been told that the machines in the milling factory were donated to them by President Museveni to Rukungiri youths under their umbrella of Rukungiri Municipality Welders Association last year.
It was reported that only person is reported to have died in the fire.
