RUKIGA – Residents living around Rushebeya Market in Rwamucucu Sub County in Rukiga district were on Wednesday, May 8, gripped with shock after an unidentified woman dumped her baby boy into a toilet.
The baby was heard crying by a woman(names withheld) who had gone to the pit latrine and alerted the authorities
Rukiga District Woman MP, Hon. Caroline Kamusiime together with police rescued a baby that was dumped in a public latrine.
On a tip-off, Police – in the company of MP- rushed to the scene to rescued the baby boy.
The baby was rushed to Mparo Health Center IV and later transferred to Rugarama Hospital in Kabale Municipality.
Rukiga District Police Commander, Andre Okumu, speaking to our reporter, revealed the police and local authorities have mounted a search for the mother of the baby.
“The mother of the baby must face the law once found. This is an unlawful act and there will be consequences for her actions,” said Okumu
Hon. Kamusiime took delight in the rescue of the baby and thanked all those who joined hands with them to see that the baby was rescued.
“It was a collective effort to see this boy rescued. In such a trying time, all that was needed was a combination of hands which was clearly seen in this incident” she added.
