KAMPALA – Ruth Nankabirwa, the Government Chief Whip has cautioned NRM Youths against treating members of the People Power pressure group as enemies but rather as competitors.
Nankabirwa, who doubles as Kiboga Woman MP made the remarks after pleas from a number of youths from her constituency who asked her to help with curtailing the influence of People Power youths that have penetrated the NRM-entrenched district of Kiboga.
“I don’t want the youth to fight each other, the most important thing is to tolerate each other. You know Kiboga is an NRM District and the youth don’t want to see anything that is not NRM, when they see other youth shouting People Power they get concerned so I had to tell them that they should not expect every person to support them.”Nankabirwa asserted.
She made the remarks during a meeting at the Office of the Prime Minister with over 100 Kiboga District Youth Council leaders with the leader of the delegation, Geoffrey Mutagobwa lamenting that the district has lost some of the youths to the rival People Power camp warning that the lost souls need to be brought back to light before catastrophe strikes the district.
Nankabirwa added: “Such people will always be there, but how do you tolerate, I don’t want them to fight.”
Adding that, “We contest and we are elected and we don’t get 100% that means, there are those people who don’t believe in your ideology and therefore, they don’t vote for you.”
Among the issues raised included request for a motorcycle for every Sub County for youths, bursaries from State House and allegations that youths are asked to pay money to access Youth Livelihood Funds.
The youths also accused some of the elders in the district of sidelining them during campaigns and are planning to form their own campaign structure.
