
HOIMA – The Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom has today commemorated the coronation anniversary to mark 25 years since the Omukama Solomon Gafabusa Iguru ascended to the throne on June 11, 1994, at Karuziika royal palace.
Large numbers of people crowded the palace in order to attend the event which included the speaker of parliament the Rt. Honourable Rebecca Kadaga who was also the guest of honour.
She represented the President of Uganda – Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the king of Tooro Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru, Prince Kassim Nakibinge, the Prime minister of Buganda and other dignitaries.

In the run-up to the event, different activities were carried out that included the renovation of cultural shrines, with fresh reeds while the main buildings got a paint job.
Empango is the first ritual the king performs as he is being enthroned. The event is marked annually, It is now 25 years since the Omukama ascended the throne.
The Bunyoro Kingdom is geographically located in Western Uganda and it covers the districts of Hoima, Masindi, Kibaale, Kiryandongo, Kagadi, Kakumiro, and Buliisa.
The Kingdom’s administrative center is strategically located in Hoima District. The ancient kingdom was one of the most powerful kingdoms in East and Central Africa between the 13th and 19th Centuries.
During the 15th Century, Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom had expanded to comprise present-day parts of eastern Congo, northern Tanzania and about 50 per cent of Uganda.
