
KAMPALA – The 6th edition of Meet the boss -Oil & gas held Friday, June 21 at Skyz hotel, ended on a high -note with professionals, youths and guests sharing ideas and opportunities to cut an edge in the budding, lucrative, complex and interesting sector.
Senior lawyer and chief guest of the event, Hon.Dr. Elly Karuhanga urged all Ugandans that intend to take part to get certified and maintain international standards.
Dr. Elly Karuhanga is also the president and founder of the Uganda Chamber of Mines and Petroleum was the lead boss of the night.
He later joined the panel discussion comprised of oil & gas gurus moderated by Mr. Nicholas Muhereza Woods, Petroleum Law and Policy expert, in the company of Ms.Jessica Kyeyune [Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC)], Ms.Saad Asamayan [ Advisor at Ministry of Finance on oil and gas, Mr.Byaruhanga,head department Oil and Gas at Victoria University and Aggrey Ashaba ,general manager of GCC services.
Hon.Dr.Elly Karuhanga said;
“The opportunities you have weren’t available during our times. Each one of us has a story to tell and I urge you to dream big regardless of the size of your body. Uganda is sitting on over 38 minerals that are not yet exploited and are meant for the next generation to enjoy them. Our phosphates will and other minerals transform our society and economy.”

He continued: “Don’t be afraid to lose and never to give up. I was the first private person to deal in oil and gas in the country, just perfect your art and skill, the oil and gas industry are highly regulated with standards that require certified personnel by world-class companies.”
He remarked that there’s a lot of emphasis on skilling by government and many centres have been set up to address this and more than 26 areas have been ring-fenced for nationals such as security, catering, logistics, clearing and forward among others.
” The people coming from abroad are looking for partnerships because It is a law by government that at least 46 percent are locals. let us keep networking, respect and maintain our friendship and always mentor people. This business depends on risk, rewards and relationship and our country is like a plane in the middle of the runway with only one option to take off.” He said.
Meet the boss is a brainchild of Uptown Group media, marketing and events company that gives a platform to professionals and spotlights them. It has had several on previous occasions with great personalities such Oscar Kihika, Simon Kasyate, French Ambassador to Uganda H.E Stephanie Rivoal among others.
The night had a relaxing moment with bold performances from Mr.Ra a lawyer by Profession and Joseph Sax who blew the audience away to enjoy every bit of their time.
