KAMPALA – Makerere University Chancellor, Professor Ezra Suruma has on Thursday, June 20 recalled Prof William Bazeyo back to the office.
Prof Bazeyo was thrown out of the office of Makerere university Deputy vice Chancellor finance and administration on June 14 by High Court judge Musa Ssekaana for being illegally appointed.
Justice Ssekaana ruled that the University’s Search Committee selected Prof Bazeyo as the suitable candidate and recommended him for the appointment without consulting the University Senate to exercise its discretion to choose, contrary to the terms of reference.
However Prof Suruma, through the University Acting manager of communication and International Relations, Dr. Muhammed Kiggundu, has requested Prof Bazeyo to go back to the office until when they decide on who to fill the vacancy.
“As we wait for court and the Senate to work upon the issue, the chancellor says let him come back and serve the University because the office is still vacant up to now yet the University needs someone to fill it for smooth running for the administration work,” he said.
Dr. Kiggundu added that ever since Mr. Bazeyo was thrown out of office, the University’s administrative work has been affected because the office remained vacant.
It is almost a week since Prof. Bazeyo was ordered by the court to vacate his office.
