
KAMPALA – The Uganda National Health Consumers Organization (UHNCO) awarded the Minister of Health Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng for her brave leadership in the implementation of the Tobacco Control Act 2015.
According to the ministry’s website, while receiving the award, Dr. Aceng expressed her delight and energy to continue the struggle to ensure Uganda is Tobacco Free.
“We are ready to enforce the Tobacco Control Act 100% and nobody will get authority from me to act against it” she said.
She added that the tobacco industry is not sleeping and they will continue fighting. “We need to strengthen our commitment and responsibility to continue our efforts in implementing the Act,” she remarked.
Ms. Robinah Katiritimba, the Executive Director of Uganda National Health Consumers Organization appreciated the leadership and commitment from the government of Uganda to public health.
“Ministry of Health is the backbone to Tobacco Control and we are sure that enforcing this law is a pathway for Uganda to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC),” Ms. Katiritimba added.
Other awardees include; Minister of State for Health in charge of General Duties, Hon. Sarah Opendi, and State Minister for Finance, Hon. David Bahati, Reporter- Muhumuza Nicholas and a Youth Representative from Makerere University.
