
KAMPALA – The Minister of Health, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng has asked those interested in investing in the health sector plus the oil and gas sector to first go and benchmark in the Albertine Graben in order to make an informed decision.
Dr. Aceng was speaking at the Health Conference on Friday, July 5 that was organized by the Health Ministry together with Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) at Kampala Serena Hotel.
“We welcome discussions with the Private Sector for a potential engagement. There is a Public-Private Policy for Health to guide our actions following a bill enacted by Parliament of Uganda,” she added.
The conference which is under the theme “Health investment opportunities in the oil and gas sector”
As part of the conference, the Ministry is to discuss health investment opportunities in the oil and gas sector.
The Minister has said that the public-private partnerships are key to influence the growth and integration of oil and gas and the health sector.
Dr. Aceng said there are a number of health investment opportunities which include the provision of Emergency Medical Services, Medicine and drugs supply and capacity building of health workers.
According to her, there is a revolving fund for the private sector.
The Petroleum Authority of Uganda said Public-Private Partnerships are a proven and efficient approach to health investment.
They added that Uganda is transitioning from the exploration to the production phases of the Petroleum Value Chain and an influx of people is expected in the Albertine Graben.
According to the PAU Executive Director, Mr. Ernest Rubondo, this is a great opportunity for investing in the health sector.
“The benefits from the oil and gas sector will not only come from the sale of crude oil but from the economic stimulation of other sectors like health,” he said.
