
KAMPALA- Legislators in Buganda ‘Lukiiko’ have, on Monday, July 15, passed the FY 2019/2020 budget worth UGX 121 billion striking an increase of UGX 25 billion from the 2018/2019 budget of UGX 96 billion at Bulange- Mengo, Kampala.
The budget was presented by the Kingdom Finance Minister Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa who said in this financial year, the Kingdom will focus more of its efforts on the completion of a shopping mall at Mirembe Villas.
The Kingdom also intends to invest in the construction of low-cost houses at Sentema, increase the production of Olwendo mineral water, plus completing the registration process of Buganda Coffee Company, and starting an online newspaper ‘Gambuuze’, among others.
“The Kingdom is focusing on starting a Medical Store to be used to store medicines used in the treatment of subjects at different health camps. Part of the funding to the health sector will also be used to sensitize people about Hepatitis B and HIV/AIDs,” he said.
Mr. Nsibirwa further revealed that Buganda Kingdom will start up short courses focusing on Agriculture at Mutesa I Royal University, fund bursary schemes, start-up vocational schools among others using the allocation in the education sector.
“Development and investment, quality education, creation of wealth and improving standards of subjects, agriculture and communications will remain the Kingdom’s priority areas,” said Mr. Nsibirwa.
Budget Allocation
UGX 30.2 billion was allocated towards the kingdom’s development and investment projects during the financial year 2019-2020, UGX. 17.9 billion towards education, UGX. 13.8 billion funds were allocated to communication, UGX 4.9 billion towards Agriculture and Environment and UGX 3.5 billion allocated to Health.
According to the kingdom’s Finance Minister, funds for the budget will be got from debt payment from the central government, development partners, Buganda Certificates and Kingdom portraits, tourism and Busuulu ( periodic ground rent payments) among others.
