
KAMPALA – The Electoral Commission (EC) has released a programme for elections of the interim chairpersons in the seven newly created districts.
In a letter dated July 9, Ag. Chairperson, Electoral Commission Hajjat Aisha Lubega Basajjanaku said the Electoral College shall comprise District Elected Councilors and District Women Councilors representing the electoral areas forming the new districts.
“Voting shall be by Electoral College and secret ballot and will be conducted at the headquarters of the respective new districts, starting at 9:00 am,” reads the statement in part.
EC appointed Thursday, July 25 as the polling day for elections of interim District chairpersons in the newly created districts.
“Please note that the elections of District Woman Representative to parliament in the newly created districts will be conducted in due course,” Ms. Lubega added in a statement.
According to EC, the newly created districts came into effect on July 1 2019.
The newly created districts include Madi-Okollo District that was created from Arua, Karenga District from Kaabong District, Kalaki District from Kaberamaido District, Kitagwenda District from Kamwengo District, Kazo District from Kiruhura District, Rwampara District from Mbarara District and finally Obongi that was created out from Moyo district.
