
BULANGE- Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II has invited Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, the titular ruler of Sokoto in northern Nigeria as the chief guest at his 26th coronation anniversary.
According to organizers, the Sultan is expected to arrive in Uganda on July, 29 just a few days prior to the annual royal celebrations.
The coronation anniversary which is slated to take place on July 31, 2019 will mark 26 years of Kabaka Mutebi on the throne and the celebrations will take place at Nkumba University grounds in Entebbe.
This was announced by the second Deputy Katikkiro and Minister of Finance, Robert Waggwa Nsibirwa, during the launch of the University’s Silver Jubilee celebrations that took place on June 18, 2019 at the Nkumba University Main Campus in Entebbe.
Meanwhile, preparations are in high gear at Nkumba and prelude activities which include; renovating the Palace where the Kabaka will be residing for the three days he will spend in Entebbe are ongoing.
On his 25th coronation anniversary in 2018, Kabaka Mutebi invited the cultural leader of Asante Kingdom of Ghana, King Asantehene Osei Tutu II as the chief guest.
Thousands of people gathered at Lubiri-Mengo including the Vice President Kiwanuka Ssekandi, Kyabazinga of Busoga William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope IV, religious leaders, representatives from the Kingdoms of Toro, Lango, Bwamba and Bunyoro among others.
Kabaka Mutebi ascended to the throne on July 31, 1993 after a string of talks between the Central government and Mengo.
The reigning cultural leader in Uganda’s biggest kingdom, is the 36th King of Buganda.
