RUKIGA -Police in Rukiga district has arrested a man for allegedly impersonating as the Western Region National Resistance Movement-NRM mobilizer.
Johnson Kahiji Amumpaire, a resident of Kanungu district who is now held at Rukiga police station was picked up today by police officers at Bukinda police post on orders of the Rukiga Resident District Commissioner Pulikeria Muhindo Mwiine.
According to Muhindo, she has received several complaints from locals that Kahiji is holding illegal meetings with the locals in the district while security leaders are not aware. She also accuses Kahiji for spreading fake news that National Resistance Movement-NRM will on 30th July 2019 open an office in Rukiga district in Western Region.
“This man has been moving around calling himself the regional NRM mobiliser, he rung me informing me that he wants to hold mobilization meetings but when I rung the national secretariat, they denied knowledge of Kahigi”, Muhindo noted.
Muhindo says that to make matters worse, Kahiji was de-campaigning National Resistance Movement-NRM instead of mobilizing.
The Rukiga District Vice Chairperson, Jackson Muganiizi and the Rwamucucu Sub County LC V Councilor Eddy Mugisha say that they were also contacted by Kahiji inviting them to attend the opening of NRM offices in Rukiga district but when they asked him to explain more on the event, he switched of his phones. Mugisha and Muganizi say that Kahiji is just looking for survival but not mobilizing for the National Resistance Movement.
The Rukiga District Police Commander Agrrey Okumu says that Kahiji is currently being held at Rukiga police station on charges of impersonation. He, however, said that he will comment more when investigations in the matter are over.
“We have Kahigi in detention on cases of impersonation and he will be produced in court once investigations are complete,” Okumu said
