KAMPALA – Music and Events promoter Andrew Mukasa aka Bajjo has been sent back to Luzira after the trial magistrate in his case was reported to be away on leave.
Bajjo had appeared at Buganda Road Court today [Friday] July 5, for the ruling of his bail application, however, he has been informed by the grade one magistrate Ms Gladys Kamasanyu told him that the trial magistrate Ms Stella Maris Amabilis was away.
Bajjo’s lawyer Erias Lukwago had asked the court to release him on grounds that he has abdominal complications and has since been receiving only pain killers from the Health facility at Luzira prison.
However, Ms Kamasanyu advised Bajjo and his lawyers to seek guidance from the Chief Magistrate on their bail application since she was only given instructions to adjourn the file to July 11 since she knows nothing concerning the case.
This did not go on well with Bajjo’s lawyer Lukwago who proceeded few minutes after the adjournment of the case to the Acting Chief Magistrate Robert Mukanza where he raised the same issues, however he has been advised to file in a written plea which the chief ( Mukanza ) will later address to the Administrators of the court.
“I am so disappointed with the system of court, a bail application is a simple matter and can be heard by anyone since Bajjo is not facing capital offenses,” Lukwago said.
Bajjo is facing charges of incitement of violence against the person of president Museveni due to his political opinion.
He faces charges offensive communication in which prosecution states that with an intention to disturb the peace and privacy of president Museveni, without any legitimate purpose recorded a video using his mobile phone containing messages threatening to overthrow the government of Uganda before the year 2021.
According to the charge, Bajjo allegedly incited the public to do an act of violence against the president in this month of June while at various places within Masaka, Ibanda, Mbarara and Kampala districts.
Bajjo was arrested by security operatives immediately after a dressing a press conference at Centenary park in Kampala with fellow music promoter Abbey Musinguzi alias Abitex about the cancelled shows of Kyandondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu ….Bobi Wine.
