
KAMPALA – Mr. Julius Kateregga Makerere University’s 85th Guild President has applauded the administration of Makerere University Hospital for its good services during his supervision of the facility on July 4, 2019.
Mr. Kateregga said the main aim of the supervision was to probe into its management and operations amidst growing concerns from the students’ body on the quality of services offered by the facility.
“I commend the new University Hospital management for the job so far well-done in as far as providing quality healthcare to the Makerere University Community, 90% of who are University students,” Kateregga said in a Facebook post.
“In a special way, the students Guild recognizes the radical reforms being instituted under the leadership of Prof. Josephat Byamugisha and the entire leadership of the College of Health Sciences under which the management and administration of the Hospital has been placed,” he added that.
Some of the reforms include the improvement and expansion of the University Laboratories, purchase of new Ultra scan services, a new triage centre, and placement for student interns from the College of Health Sciences.
Mr Kateregga further noted that a new policy has been instituted within which medical employees at the College of Health Sciences become University Hospital staff by default to enhance medical Human Resource at the facility.
“The students Guild leadership appreciates and commends the University management under Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe for enabling the College Of Health Sciences to take full charge of the University Hospital,” he said.
He added that the Students Guild can begin to trust the services of the University Hospital encouraged the students’ body to promptly register with, and seek Health services from the University Hospital.
The University Hospital offers free medical services to all registered Makerere University Students, and affordable outpatient and inpatient services for the rest of the Community.
Some of the services the University hospital offers include; Malaria treatment, Upper Respiratory Tract treatment, pelvic inflammatory treatment, UTI treatment, Eye care services, Psychiatric care, Ambulance services, Safe Male Circumcision, among several others.
The University Hospital also does a number of Community outreaches as part of its social responsibility.
