
KAMPALA – President Yoweri Kaguta has on Monday, July 1, 2019, renewed the tenure of Mr. Ofwono Opondo as the Executive Director of Uganda Media Center for three years.
Mr Opondo took it to his tweeter page and expressed his gratitude towards this new re-appointment.
“President @KagutaMuseveni has extended my contract of service for a further three-year period effective today July 1st, 2019. It is with great gratitude to continue to serve the President, the Government and Citizens of Uganda,” he tweeted.
Replacing Mr Fred Opolot, Mr Opondo was appointed the head of Uganda Media Centre in May 2013 for a three-year contract that he renewed in November 2016 as the executive director for another three years ending 2019.
He served as the Deputy spokesperson for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party before becoming a full government spokesperson in 2016.
The Uganda Media centre was established in September 2005 by President Museveni with a role to introduce professional management of government media relations.

The institution operates outside ordinary public service structures. Among other roles, the centre provides professional media and communication services to government departments.
It prepares and manages government briefings and also accredits foreign journalists who wish to operate in the country.
