KAMPALA – Moses Ongoriya 26, who shot dead a businessman early this week at Quality shopping village, Naalya has been charged and remanded to Luzira Prison.
Mr. Ongoriya on Thursday 11 appeared before grade one magistrate’s court at Kiira where he has been officially charged with the murder of Arnold Ainebyona Mugisha.
However, the presiding Magistrate Ms Joan Aciro did not allow him to say anything for lack of jurisdiction.
“My duty is to only read the charges for you. This is a capital offence that can only be tried in the High Court,” Ms Aciro said.
The magistrate remanded him until July 26 for the mention of the case.
According to the charge sheet, Ongoriya on the 9th July 9, 2019, at Quality Shopping Village Naalya Namugongo division, Kiira Municipality in the district of Wakiso with malice aforethought unlawfully killed Ayinebyona Arnold.
All parties interested in the matter were advised to go to Buganda road court on the set date when the same will be mentioned.
Police’s preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased and his two other colleagues came to the supermarket to shop. As they were leaving, he reversed the car and drove on the foot of a security guard, Mr Awaze Babu, after which a sharp exchange of words ensued.
Eyewitnesses say this prompted Ongoria to rush to the sentry box where he picked his SAR gun and shot the deceased in the mouth while he was still at the steering wheel in the car.
Police say investigations into the matter are still ongoing and details will be communicated later.
