
KAMPALA- The National Insurance Corporation (NIC) has on July 10 handed over a building on Plot 2A along Kampala road to Makerere University including ownership documents.
The handover was presided over by the Makerere University Council Chairperson Ms. Lorna Magara where the property was handed to her by the Chairman Board of Directors, NIC Holdings Limited Dr. Martin Aliker.
In his remarks, The Makerere University Vice-chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe said that, “The formal handover of Plot 2A, Kampala Road by National Insurance Corporation (NIC) to Makerere University, presided over by our Chairperson of Council marks the end of a long period of negotiation and the beginning of a new era of collaboration between Mak and NIC.”
NIC was represented by Managing Director-Mr. Bayo Folayan and Directors; Ms. Ketrah .A. Tukuratiire, Dr. Alan Shonubi, Mr. Elias Edu, Ms. Florence Obore, Mr. Antony Ngugi, Mr. Grace Wanyama and Ms. Pamela Abonyo.
The ceremony was witnessed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs)-Dr. Umar Kakumba, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Finance and Administration)-Prof. William Bazeyo and the Chairperson, Finance, Planning, Administration and Investment Committee (FPAIC) of Council-Mr. Bruce Balaba Kabaasa.
Also present were the Acting University Secretary-Mr. Yusuf Kiranda, Director Estates and Works-Eng. Christina Kakeeto, Director Legal Affairs-Mr. Henry Mwebe, Director Internal Audit-Mr. Walter Yorac Nono, Acting Director Planning and Development Department-Mr. Matia Kabuye, representatives of the University’s external lawyers, Kateera & Kagumire Advocates and other officials.
