MASAKA – Police in Masaka have stopped Joseph Mayanja, alias Chameleone’s concerts a few days after joining Demcratic Party ahead of 2021 polls.
The singer’s concerts were scheduled for Mutukula and Kalisizo.
According to Chameleone’s manager, Robert Nkuke Mutima, the DPC for Kyotera District called him and said they had ‘orders from above’ to stop the shows in the area.
“We had a show in Kalisizo too, but we have been told there are orders from above to stop us. We had fulfilled all the requirements. This is strictly politics. We have lost over Shs100m.”
Paul Kangave, the Masaka regional police spokesperson confirmed that “It is true his concerts have been stopped, but this is because he has not obtained security clearance. We can’t allow concerts here unless he has clearance. The singer and his management know the procedure and should follow it.”
Early this month, the singer regretted and apologized participating in the Museveni song, the popular Tubonga Nawe song.
Mr. Mayanja is among the 12 artists who pledged their allegiance to Mr. Museveni in the previous general polls through the Tubonga Nawe song.
Chameleone was speaking on at Sharing Hall in Nsambya, during his initiation into the DP. He said that his participation in the song was entirely business and not politics.
The DP President Norbert Mao welcomed Chameleon to the party and appointed him as Chief National Mobiliser.
The singer is looking forward to unseating Erias Lukwago for Kampala Lord Mayorship come 2021.
Chameleone joins Bobwine real name Robert Kyagulanyi, the Kyadondo East MP who has October 2017 decried the cancellation of his shows by security forces on claims that he doesn’t fulfil the required conditions.
It should be membered that in June this year, Capt Mike Mukula, the National Vice Chairman NRM Eastern who is also Chairman Pan African Movement warned the singer to stay away from politics if he doesn’t want to lose his money and music career.
Mr. Mukula said that basing on his experience, politics will erode Chameleone’s financial base and could ruin his entertainment career.
“My advice to my good friend chameleon is to go slow on politics; it will erode your financial base and could ruin your entertainment career. Don’t say I didn’t advise you, take or leave it experience has taught me,” warned Capt Mukula through twitter.
However, replying him, Chameleone said that he fears nothing and promised to continue with what he called ‘paving the way.’
“Thank you my great Friend, “Great men pave way for greater men” now that they didn’t we shall pave our own way and for the greater men after us,” he replied.
