
MUKONO – A total of 1,234 is set to graduate tomorrow Friday, June 5, at Uganda Christian University (UCU).
The institution which runs a three-intake system will be holding her first part of the twentieth graduation ceremony this year at the main Campus in Mukono, comprising of students from the main campus, UCU Kampala Campus and Arua Campus.
The graduates are from 49 academic programmes. These comprise of 661 males and 573 females.
A total of 38 students (17 males and 21 females) will graduate with first-class degrees. The best being Ssentumu Richard from Bachelor of Education and Alier Peter from Bachelor of Community Health with 4.71 next to them is Namuli Emily and Nakatude Lydia both from Bachelor of Nursing Science with 4.68.
This is the first time UCU will be passing out graduates in Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Technology who are 8 and Master of Science in Human Nutrition with 1 student.
According to the UCU Communications Officer, Mr. Frank Obony all students that score a GPA of 4.50 are excellent students.
Mr. Obony said: “According to the UCU standards anybody with a GPA of 4.50 and above has excelled and they will be awarded.”
He also went ahead to reveal that the She Cranes’ goalkeeper, Ms. Ruth Aturo who had attained a scholarship from the institution and was awarded the best goalkeeper 2018 by Nile Special USPA will also be graduating with diplomas in Business Administration.
He said: “We give scholarships to students. We believe that one can not only survive with sports only. “
“We go out in search of such talents. They go through tests done by our coaches.” He added.
The graduation ceremony will be graced by the Justice Catharine Bamugemereire the head of Commission of Land Inquiry.
About UCU Graduations
UCU holds seven graduation ceremonies annually at its Main Campus and Constituent Colleges. These include three graduation ceremonies at the UCU Main Campus in Mukono, two graduation ceremonies at Bishop Barham University College, (BBUC, Kabale) and two graduation ceremonies at UCU Mbale University College.
The next part will still be in July at Mbale Campus.
Students at UCU Kampala and Arua Campus graduate from the Main Campus in Mukono where they get to walk away with their transcripts after graduation to ease their absorption in the job market.
