
RUKIGA – Police in Rukiga district is holding a 40-year-old man on allegations of stealing a motor vehicle.
The suspect has been identified as Jackson Monday, a resident of Bizcell in Nyakarambi parish Rwamucucu Sub-county in Rukiga district.
According to police, Monday was intercepted red-handed by police at Muhanga on Thursday night 18th July 2019 at around 11:00 pm along Mbarara- Kabale highway driving a motor vehicle registration number UAN 597V Toyota Corolla which he allegedly stole from Katamba’s garage in Ntungamo municipality earlier on in the day.
The Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson Elly Maate says that Monday disguised as a buyer and asked the owner to give him a vehicle to do a road test and then sped off.
Mr Maate disclosed that the suspect was sighted driving at a very fast speed past Rubare Town Council, which prompted the traffic officers to alert Muhanga police that eventually intercepted the suspect from the vehicle and arrested him.
“We got a tip-off from concerned people in Rubare and Ntungamo and our officers at Muhanga got onto alert to intercept Monday” Mr Maate narrated.
Mr Maate says that the suspect is currently detained at Muhanga police post pending transfer to Ntungamo where he will answer charges accordingly when the investigations into the matter commence.
