
RUKUNGIRI – Police in Rukungiri are investigating circumstances under which Bechwarika Kham Khahambisa, the headteacher of Kyabugashe Secondary School, was allegedly poisoned resulting in his mysterious sudden passing on Tuesday, July 17.
Kigezi Regional Police Spokesman Elly Maate told this website that the Kham Khahambisa was found dead at 5 pm in his residence in Butagasi cell, Kinyasano Ward in Rukungiri Municipality.
Khahambisa allegedly returned home at lunchtime but decided to have a rest.
However, Maate said that when the Police arrived at Kham Khahambisa residence they found him already dead with bruises on his body.
“We arrived at the scene and on checking his body, we discovered that it had bruises, but we also discovered samples of food suspected to be poisoned were recovered as an exhibit,” Maate said.
He, however, results of the postmortem report conducted at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital are yet to be revealed with investigations still going on.
Maate said that a case of suspected poisoning has been registered at Rukungiri Police Station under reference number CRB 703/2019 to help in further investigations.
It’s reported that Kham Khahambisa’s wife was in Kampala for a business trip when he died.
Maate called upon the people of Rukungiri especially the teachers to remain calm as Police carry out throughout Investigation and therefore should avoid speculation.
Kham Khahambisa was a Headteacher of Central High in Rukungiri Municipality a privately owned school before he was appointed the substantive Headteacher and posted to Kyabugashe Secondary School where he has been for at least 2 years.
The people of Rukungiri received the sad news about his death with surprise saying that he was a straightforward speaking man who had helped many people, especially youth to attain education.
“We have lost a great pillar in education systems in Rukungiri District,” Rev Charles Karenzi, a retired Parish Priest of Kyabugashe CoU, said.
Kham Khahambisa’s body was returned to Rukungiri ahead of a funeral memorial service at All Saints Church in Rukungiri Municipality on Thursday, July 18 at 4 pm before his body is taken to his country home in Marumba in Southern Division of Rukungiri Municipality where burial will take place Friday, July 19, 2019.
