
KABALE – More than 20 suspected criminals have on August 22, been rounded up in an impromptu operation mounted by Police in Kabale district.
The operation on Wednesday covered the areas of Mwanjari, Kekubo, Nyabikoni and Kirigime all in Kabale Municipality.
It was aimed at arresting criminals believed to be destabilizing peace in these areas.
The Kabale District Police Commander Brian Ampeire says that the operation was in direct response to public complaints about the increasing criminal activities in their areas for the past two weeks.
Mr. Ampaire said that “police will continue to carry out regular operations in order to rid the town of criminal activity”.
Mr. Ampeire said that the suspects are currently detained at different police cells within the municipality and are still being screened.
“We have detained more than 20 people. These were nabbed in an operation that we mounted to sweep criminals from terrorizing the community,” Ampeire added
Mr. Ampeire added that those without valid identification documents will be arraigned in court to answer to charges of theft, idle and disorderly among others.
