HOIMA — The Member of Parliament for Buyaga West County in Kibaale District, Mr Barnabas Tinkasiimire, over the weekend unveiled a team of 50 that he said will be in-charge of spreading the message of People Power movement led by Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi, aka Bobi Wine, in Bunyoro sub-region.
Mr Tinkasiimire, who is a member of the ruling NRM party but the Chief Coordinator of People Power in Bunyoro sub region, said with the new team, they will limit NRM’s influence in Bunyoro’s seven districts and win over supporters to People Power ahead of 2021 elections. For more than 20 years now, Bunyoro region has been a stronghold of the NRM party, winning more than 90 percent of the support from that region in every election.
Speaking at a function held at his home in Busoiga Village, the MP, who has since been labelled as a rebel by his party, said Mr Museveni is already weak and the coming in of People Power will bring him to his knees.
Mr Tinkasimire decried the alarming rates of corruption, land grabbing, insecurity, unemployment, low prices for agricultural produce and the sorry state of health facilities in the country.
“Bunyoro, as a region has not benefited anything from the ruling government apart from the oil roads. If oil had not been discovered in Bunyoro, even the roads would still be in sorry state,” he said.
The legislator tasked to the sub-counties to recruit sub county, parish and village coordinators in the region.
“Elect five coordinators for every sub county, eight coordinators for every parish and ten for every village. Work as foot soldiers who will cause change in Uganda,” he told the coordinators.
Some of the coordinators include Mr Rogers Amanyire, the Chief Coordinator for Masindi district, Mr William Wataka for Kiryandongo, Mr Godfrey Angaliya in Buliisa, Mr Livingston Akugizibwe, the coordinator for Kagadi district and Mr Twaise Mugisha, the coordinator for Kikuube district. Others are Grace Asiimwe (Hoima), Anatoly Kirigwaijjo (Kibaale) and Godfrey Musoke. These will work with other elected district executive members to strengthen and spread the People Power agenda in Bunyoro.
