
YUMBE – The President’s office through the Manifesto Implementation Unit which is headed by Mr Willis Bashaasha, this week sent out a team to Northern Uganda to cover the larger sub-regions of West Nile, Acholi and Lango with a sole aim of monitoring the manifesto implementation.
The field exercise commenced on Monday, August 12, 2019. The team has been discussing with district leaders like Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) NRM party Chairpersons in the 3 sub-regions and Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs) and other leaders that include security and zonal commanders.
According to Mr Bashaasha, the West Nile team leader revealed to the press that the major objective of the exercise is to determine the bottlenecks that affect the manifesto’s implementation as well as carrying out a continuous assessment of its progress.
The exercise also seeks to make and a possible way forward that includes field visits that are adequately covered by the media to ascertain the actual progress of the manifesto implementation.
He revealed that they have already visited various infrastructural projects and several installations in a bid to monitor their work progress, commitment and alignment to the Manifesto trajectory which included;
Lokopio Hill Technical & Vocational Institute which is located in Yumbe district, they also visited Romogi Seed Secondary School which is also in Yumbe district.
Other notable projects that were visited include; Kochie Water project in Nyarabu village which is in Koboko district that has enabled more than 1200 people to access clean piped water supplied by National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC).
The team led by the Director also inspected a newly constructed block in Lokopio Vocational Institute located in Yumbe district plus power transmission projects and the Yumbe Ferry and Arua Hospital among other major developments within the area.
Mr Bashaasha noted that the preliminary assessment of the field exercise puts the West Nile region at steady progress.
He also appraised the territory, saying that the region’s performance is at 60% implementation index.
A detailed case by case performance per district will be provided soon after the monitoring exercise ends on Friday, August 16, 2019.
Most of the district leaders like; Moyo’s LC 5 Chairman, William Anyama and Adjumani RDC Peter Taban commended the Office of the President for conducting the field monitoring.
The district leaders congratulated Mr Bashaasha for the initiative and applauded the unit for the impromptu visits saying that they are necessary in fast-tracking the Manifesto performance.
