
KISORO – Police in kisoro is investing circumstance under which a motor accident claimed the life of a minor and the mother sustained injuries.
The accident happened on Saturday August 24, at around 17:30 hours at Hope primary school in Nyabaremura Village Rubuguri Town Council in Kisoro district.
This allegedly occured after a motorcycle reg no, UEP 651H that was heading to Nyabaremura T/C from Rubuguri Town council veered off the road.
The duo was travelling on a boda-boda that was being driven by by Kanyanya Lawrence when they met a tipper lorry driven by Barnabas going the opposite direction.
Onlookers say the motorcycle rider failed to balance and fell off with his passengers, Mildred a 1-yr-old baby died on the spot and the infant’s mother Kembabazi Macksesia 22 yrs got minor injuries.
Both the deceased and the victim are residents of Nyabaremura village Rubuguri Town council in Kisoro District, but hails from Bishakyi Village, Butaare Parish, Muko S/County in Rubanda District.
John Hakizimana an eyewitnes told our reporter that the boda-boda cyclist was riding at a high speed and couldn’t decide on what to do next when he incidentally saw the lorry fast approaching.
“I saw the boda-boda rider staggering in the middle of the road after realizing that the lorry was almost near to him. He then tried to bypass it but all were futile, he ended on the ground with his two passengers,” said an eyewitness.
Elly Maate the Kigezi region police mouthpiece noted that police visited the scene, took the body to Rubuguri H/C IV mortuary pending postmortem and the mother in same health centre for treatment.
Mr. Maate cautioned drivers and riders to be vigilant on the road if they are to get rid of accidents.
The police mouthpiece noted that “both the rider of the motorcycle and the lorry which caused the accident escaped immediately with their vehicles”.
“I want to caution our people, while we are on the road, we should always observe the rules and regulations of the road. Drive carefully, observe the corners and follow the instructions as per all the road signs,” Maate added.
The case has been registered at Rubuguri police station TAR 33/2019.
