KAMPALA – The State Minister for General Duties, Ministry of Health, Sarah Opendi has described the embattled Security Minister, Elly Tumwine as a bully who doesn’t stand by his words despite professing to being a born again Christian.
Hon Opendi made the remarks on Thursday, August 8 while appearing before the Rules, Discipline and Privileges Committee that is investigating allegations that the General belittled Speaker of Parliament and threatened to harm Cecilia Ogwal last month.
The Minister said confirmed allegations made by Hon Katusabe that indeed Gen Tumwine belittled the Speaker and was shocked when the General denied having uttered those remarks despite professing to being a Christian.
Hon Opendi also defended her decision to engage in Kasese matters saying the matter was of public interest.
“From my own observations is that Tumwine is a bully. That is what I can say in response to that. It depends on what the issue at hand is if it is a matter of public importance, the whole purpose of meeting Tumwine was to solve the problem. There were allegations of shoot and kill,”said Hon Opendi.
While appearing before the Committee on Tuesday, Gen Tumwine denied having belittled the Speaker and threatening to harm Hon Ogwal.
He instead described the two legislators as liars who shouldn’t be allowed to tarnish his name.
