KAMPALA —Stand-up comedian Charles Kasozi aka MC Mariachi and artiste Maureen Nantume have been blocked from entering the US where they were to hold a concert on Sunday, September 29.
Maureen and Mariachi had gone to USA to perform at a show organised in Boston by former artiste Sarah Zawedde. But the two were stopped at Logan airport and deported after they were asked to produce their work permits to perform in USA and they didn’t have any.
Sources have told this website that Zawedde had asked the duo to pose that they visiting the US to attend a birthday party so that they would not be asked for work permits. Sources added that whereas Mariachi managed to deceive the immigration officers, Nantume failed and the two were blocked.
The deportation ban is for 10 years and they can try again after that period. Sources said that the show was organized by Zawedde but fronted Muvawala to promote it because is more popular she also organized the Bobiwine show which was cancelled by Bobi Wine . These two follow Rema Namakula who was deported some years back for failure to have a work permit.
In desperate moves, Zawedde was believed to be in talks with Desire Luzinda and Eddie Kenzo to perform instead.
