
KAMPALA – The Minister of Education and Sports, Ms Janet Museveni, has appointed Dr. Eng. Silver Mugisha as the new Board Chairperson of the Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB) for a period of three years.
He will lead a team of 15 Board members in line with the Statutory Instrument 2009 No.9 that established UBTEB.
Dr. Eng. Mugisha, who is the Managing Director of National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), takes over from Prof. Venansius Baryamureeba who has been the Board chairperson.
Following the appointment of Board members by the Minister, the Secretariat of UBTEB has organised inauguration of Board members on Tuesday, 3rd September 2019 at 2:00 pm at UBTEB Secretariat. The inauguration ceremony shall be presided over by the Minister of Education and Sports.
As the managing director of one of the best performing water utilities in Africa, Dr Eng Mugisha is expected to use over 20 years’ experience in water utility operations, international policy, research and advisory services to steer UBTEB to greater heights.
He is expected to streamline activities of UBTEB and ensure that the students are absorbed into the job market. UBTEB is mandated to accredit training institutions as examinations centers.
He also expected to institute mechanisms that will curb malpractices during business and technical exams. According to UBTEB executive secretary Onesmus Oyesigye, over there are rising cases of examinations malpractices.
UBTEB is a statutory national assessment body established by an Act of Parliament and mandated to streamline, regulate, coordinate and conduct credible national examinations and award Certificates and Diplomas in the Business, Technical and Vocational professions in Uganda.
