
KAMPALA – Gov’t has started compensating people who are affected by the planned upgrade of Rwekunye-Masindi Port through Apac and Lira up to Acholi bur in Pader district.
Construction work scheduled to start early next year will get the 256km highway that goes through Akokoro Sub County in Apac district, the home of former two-time President Late Dr Apollo Milton Obote tarmacked.
The on-going compensation is jointly being done by Uganda National Roads Authority and Ministry of lands.
Under the first section that covered Rwekunye, Akokoro, Ibuje up to Apac town, some 395 residents were evaluated but only 320 have so far been fully compensated.
Without divulging the total amount spent, Mark Ssali, the UNRA Communication Officer says that residents are being compensated as per the market value of property affected and in line with the recommendation of the gov’t chief valuer.
Under the second section covering Apac, Lira and Puranga Sub County, some 1,375 residents were evaluated and abt 688 have so far received their payment.
