KAMPALA – Boda boda riders and abattoir operators from Kalerwe under their umbrella body, “Agaliawamu” have been urged to observe road discipline.
Most of the road accidents in Uganda have been as a result of violating road discipline like overspeeding and careless driving.
On Thursday 5, August, ACP Kirungi Suleiman, Ag Commissioner Inspectorate of Vehicles called boda boda cyclists at Kalerwe to observe road displine and respect rules.
He also tipped the cyclists on how they can boost the boda-boda industry.
“Use the road responsibly, have respect for pedestrian walkways and ride carefully. Avoid overspeeding and always put on your helmets. That way, we shall have a disciplined boda boda industry,” ACP Kirungi said.
He also noted that the Inspectorate of Vehicles will train the riders on traffic regulations and road safety to make it easy for them understand the different road signs.
According to him, this will come with equipping riders with riding skills.
He also warned them against ridding in the awkward hours of the night adding that riding at night puts lives of riders at risk.
He, therefore, urged the riders to aqcuire driving permits which he said helps improving confidence.
The IOV also thanked the management of the Agaliawamu SACCO for the development efforts put towards creating jobs for the youth which he said helps in the fight against crime.
