MOROTO – Police in Moroto District Friday, September 27, briefly held the Mityana Municipality Member of Parliament Mr Francis Zaake and later released him.
Mr. Zake was arrested over allegations of distributing People Power campaigning posters and T-shirts.
The legislator said he was touring Moroto Municipality for the first time to feel the challenges the people of Moroto and Karamoja at large face so that he can debate knowledgeably if the issue of Karamoja is ever brought up in parliament for debate.
After being questioned at the office of the District Police Commander, Hon Zake, wearing a red beret was whisked off in a waiting car.
“We travelled from Hoima this morning touring northern Uganda and we passed Lira, Abim to Moroto just to tour our country as Ugandans, but I am surprised that I’m being arrested and questioned on what brought me to Moroto,” he said.

Mr Jude Nasucha the District Police Commander Moroto told PML Daily that they arrested Mr Zaake after receiving intelligence briefs that he had T-shirts and posters.
“We checked his car and we have got nothing like posters so we have escorted him beyond Moroto to Napak and Napak District will take him to Katakwi,” he said. It is not clear where the MP will end up, but it is clear, he is not needed in Moroto as the security bosses there have said ‘No’ to his visit.
