KAMPALA – The Kyambogo University Guild cabinet has tasked the Guild President Jonathan Tundulu to resign from office alleging that he lacks the ability to lead the institution.
In a joint dossier with assented signatures by the entire guild cabinet dated September 26, the ministers noted that the Guild President has fostered an atmosphere of hostility, retaliation and unethical behaviour.
“His lack of leadership, mismanagement, selfish interest and very poor personal decisions have greatly degraded and severely damaged the relationship between the university management, the student leadership and the students’ body. Our continuous attempts to salvage the situation have not yielded fruit and we feel that our relationship with him in serving the students is irreparable and as cabinet ministers, due to the love we have for our great institution, we cannot allow this university to be led by such an incompetent, selfish, tyrant, narrow-minded, extremely rigid, disrespectful [person] both to colleagues and the students an administration. [There are] too many disciplinary cases in addition to [him] being a dictator,” reads the dossier in part.
Mr Tundulu has been given a seven-day ultimatum to resign from office as the ministers claim they no longer recognize him as their president.
The cabinet has drafted 15 reasons to justify Mr Tundulu’s impeachment which among others include his neglect for students’ interests in favour of national politics, mismanagement of guild funds with regards which he refers to as “my money”, misuse of office, disrespect of the GRC speaker, the cabinet authority and colleagues coupled with selfishness.
“A bad and incompetent Guild President with little know-how of his position and use of office can take a good executive, GRC and the entire student fraternity to destruction, therefore, causing the best students and dedicated student leaders to lose all motivation and fail,” reads the document in part.
Adding that, “we would like to reiterate that the Guild Executive and GRC, men and women of valour of Kyambogo University have lost all trust and faith in Mr. Tundulu Jonathan’s ability to lead this university and thus he should not be allowed to continue sailing this wreckage ship towards rocks which in turn makes the innocent students to whom we are constitutionally held accountable to face poor service delivery.”
One of the cabinet members confirmed this development and said they are looking to get another guild president.
“The cabinet has expressed disappointment and has [written] a vote of no confidence, the GRC are equally going to do the same and some students,” he said.
When PML Daily contacted Mr Tundulu, he said he was not certain of where the document circulating on social media and in the attached offices came from.
“When you read through the document, it shows that all the ministers consented to the move, but none of them signed. I am yet to know where this document came from. The document is constitutionally wrong,” he said.
He promised to suspend all ministers until they reveal whoever is behind the document.
“I am going to summon the cabinet ministers and I will suspend all of them until they put a disclaimer for tarnishing the guild’s reputation,” Tundulu said.
