
KAMPALA – The three re-arrested Kaweesi murder suspects have on September 30, been released on a police bond at the Kireka Special Investigation Department (SID).
Yusuf Mugerwa, Jibril Kalyango and Yusuf Nyanzi have spent 2 weeks in custody on charges of belonging to a terrorism group -ADF.
However on Monday 30 their lawyer Anthony Wameli said he received a call from the commandant SIU Elly Wamonya informing him to come and pick his clients, a call he obliged to and drove his clients to court.
Their release comes shortly after Highcourt judge Henrietta Wolayo issued an order directing the IGP Martin Okoth Ochola, Attorney General and Wamonya to produce the 3 men before her this afternoon dead or alive.
This was after their lawyers complained that ever since their brutal arrest on September 11, 2019 at the International Crimes Division of the Highcourt in Kololo, their whereabouts have been unknown till Monday.
The arrest was effected immediately as the court had granted and released them on bail in relation to charges involving the murder of former police spoke’s person Andrew Felix Kaweesi, his bodyguard Kenneth Erau and driver Godfrey Wambewa in March 2017.
Kalyango, Nyanzi and Mugerwa will, however, have to report back to police at Kireka on the October 11, in honour of their bail.
However other three suspects who had also been released; Noordin Higenyi alias taata Abdallazak, Abdurashid Mbaziira Bruhan Balyejusa alias Jimmy Masiga Ogutu are still facing three charges of procuring National IDs in other people’s names at the Nabweru Magistrate’s court.
While Noordin Higenyi alias taata Abdallazak and Abdurashid Mbaziira are still battling capital offences at the Mukono chief magistrate’s court.
