KAMPALA – Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has lashed out at politicians from other political parties who are using the platform of his People Power movement gain mileage.
While launching the red beret campaign at Kamwokya in Kampala on Sunday, a tough-talking Bobi Wine said he is tired of political hypocrites whom he said joined the people power movement to promote their own political parties and political careers.
“If you come to people power, you must leave your political party affiliation at your home,” he said at the function held near his Fire Base studio.
Bobi Wine’s remarks amidst attacks from DP president Norbert Mao who described people power as just a group of people following a celebrity. Recently, NRM rebel MP Barnabas Tinkasimire openly stated that he was still a staunch NRM leader and would even stand on NRM ticket in any future election, although he is the coordinator of People Power for greater Bunyoro.
On Sunday, September 01, 2019 Bobi Wine said the launching of the red beret campaign is to encourage all Ugandans to understand that they have a right to freely express themselves as guaranteed by the Constitution.
“We are doing this to encourage all Ugandans to understand that they have a right to freely express themselves as guaranteed by the Constitution. It is not a crime to wear a beret. Unfortunately, many comrades have been arrested and harassed by some elements within security services for wearing these berets and we must break the fear to do what is right. The red beret symbolises our resistance against injustice and oppression,” he said.
The legislator also went ahead to warn against using tribalism in their political mission, expressing that tribalism is not part of People Power
