ABIM – Grade II magistrate court in Kotido District has Friday, October 18, remanded the Senior Accounts Assistant of Lotuke Sub County on allegations of corruption and abuse of office.
Grade II magistrate Mr. Abunyala Lotyang remanded Mr. David Menya to Amita government prisons after the state alleged that the suspect embezzled UGX21m which was revenue collected from markets in Lotuke Sub County.
Mr. Menya was arrested by the Police on orders of the Resident District Commissioner Mr. Samuel Mpimbaza Hashaka and his deputy Ms Proscovia Acham after the Sub County Chief wrote a letter to the Chief Administrative Officer, copied to the office of the RDC explaining how Mr. Menya misappropriated the money.
Mr. Menya was released on Police bond after spending three days in their cells but he was rearrested this morning after Police getting information that he was planning to jump the bond.
In court, the suspect was not allowed to enter any plea as the court does not have the jurisdiction to hear such cases.
“I’m remanding you to Amita government prisons and you will appear before the anti-corruption court,” the magistrate informed Mr. Menya.
The general public welcomed the development describing it as great being the first of its kind in a district where officials are accused of rampant corruption.
