
KAMPALA – The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has announced plans to elect new leaders that will sit on the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
NEC is the administrative organ of the party comprising 86 members and is chaired by party president Patrick Oboi Amuriat.
Addressing journalists at the FDC headquarters in Najjanankumbi, Kampala on Monday, October 14, 2019, FDC spokesman Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda said during the party NEC’s October 11, 2019 meeting, they agreed to replace new leaders since the term of office for the existing group is set to expire.
“The National Executive Committee (NEC) discussed the internal party roadmap. The five-year term of office for the FDC leaders except the party President will expire in July next year. The term of the party president will expire two years later in 2022. The National Executive Committee (NEC) resolved that general mobilization which includes meeting of FDC grassroots leadership, recruitment of new members and meeting the public should be re-enforced,” Mr Ssemujju said.
For purpose of this mobilization, he said they have divided the country into seven regions and appointed teams to lead this new mobilization drive.
Karamoja will be led by party Secretary General Nathan Nandala Mafabi who will be assisted by Mr Geoffrey Ekanya
Buganda will be led by Ms Joyce Nabbosa Ssebugwo, Mr Michael Kabaziguruka, Mr Ibrahim Kasozi, Mr Mubaraka Munywagwa, Mr Ssemujju and Mr Wasswa Biriggwa, among others
Eastern Uganda will be led by Mr Amuriat, Mr Ekanya, Ms Salaamu Musumba and Mr Philip Wafula Oguttu.
Ankore/Kigezi will be led by Mr Jack Sabiiti, Mr Roland Mugume Kaginda, Mr Francis Mwijukye, Ms. Ingrid Turinawe and Ms Virginia Plan Mugyenyi.
Bunyoro/Toro/Rwenzori will be led by Mr Toterebuka Bamwenda, Mr. Tugume Moses and Mr William Nzoghu.
Acholi Lango will be led by Mr Okin Ojara, Mr Okumu Reagan, Mr Betty Aol, Mr Aciro Lucy, Mr Acire Christopher, Ms AKello Franca Judith and Ms Judith Franka
West Nile will be led by Mr Hassan Kaps Fungaroo, Mr Oguzu Lee Denis and Mr Emmanuel Ongiertho.
Mr Ssemujju said the full list of committee members will be released by the FDC Secretariat in due course. He added that the team leaders will be notified this week of their appointments and responsibility and are expected to convene meetings and to hit the ground immediately.
“The work of these team will also include auditing of the existing structures to establish the gaps caused by; death, desertion, absenteeism, retirement etc. The party National Council comprising 205 members and chaired by the Chairman Ambassador Wasswa Biriggwa will sit to discuss the findings of these teams and make decisions and recommendations to the National Delegates Conference,” he said.
“The constitutional changes arising from the satanic Raphael Magyezi Bill, have affected our roadmap as they have brought forward nominations of the president and Members of Parliament,” he added.
He said the presidential nominations according to the EC are scheduled for August next year. The FDC organs will discuss whether internal elections are brought forward or postponed until after the general elections.
