
KAABONG – Four UPDF soldiers attached to the third division in Kaabong District in Karamoja sub region in north eastern Uganda have on Monday morning of October 7, perished in a motor accident.
Maj. Telesphor Turyamumanya, the acting 3rd Division Spokesman confirmed the incident, describing it as unfortunate.
He said the accident was caused by when the driver attempted to dodge goats that had gathered in the middle of the road.
“I think there was an element of over speeding too, we have lost four soldiers and two others including one civilian goat injured. They are getting treatment at Kaabong Hospital,” he said.
According to Major Turyamumanya a helicopter has been dispatched to Kaabong to evacuate the injured soldiers to Kampala for further treatment.
He declined to name the dead and the injured requesting for more time.
A source in the UPDF who did not want to be named told PML Daily that the soldiers were rushing to arrest one of their colleagues, Pt Jimmy Masaaba, who was wanted for allegedly shooting dead a one Joseph Nyerere, a helper at the Chinese Construction Company.
The source said that information reached the barracks that Pt Masaaba had been sighted at Uzake Village, Morungole Sub County in Kaabong, explaining the reason for the soldiers driving at breakneck speed.
