
KASESE —Police in Kasese briefly held the Member of Parliament Mityana Municipality Francis Zaake and eleven youth members of the People Power movement.
Zaake and the youth were arrested from Bamboocha Gardens Resort in Central Division of Kasese municipality in a meeting.
A joint security force of police and UPDF raided the resort where Zaake and his colleagues were picked.
The operation was led by Kasese Divisional Police Commander Dickens Okello.
Joel Kaguta, a radio journalist at Messiah Radio who was arrested with the People Power activists told reporters that Zaake had told the activists that he was in Kasese to interact with them.
The youthful MP was later released by police and escorted out of the district on on Tuesday evening.
Police in Moroto last week also arrested Mr Zaake before releasing him after hours in detention.
Mr. Zake was arrested over allegations of distributing People Power campaigning posters and T-shirts.
The legislator said he was touring Moroto Municipality for the first time to feel the challenges the people of Moroto and Karamoja at large face so that he can debate knowledgeably if the issue of Karamoja is ever brought up in parliament for debate.
After being questioned at the office of the District Police Commander, Hon Zake, wearing a red beret was whisked off in a waiting car.
Zaake is one of the People Power leaders who have built a large youth following through their criticism of long-time leader President Yoweri Museveni – who has been in power for 32 years – both in parliament and now in music.
