
KAMPALA – Nsereko Ulma Male has been charged for impersonating a Weights and Measures Verification Officer of the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS).
Appearing before the Standards and Utilities Court at Buganda Road Grade One Magistrate, Her Worship Marion Mangeni at the Court, prosecution alleged that Male, a 26-year-old Weighing Scale Mechanic and his co-accused went to Mayuge Sugar Industries Steel Division in Njeru with weighing equipment with the intention of calibrating the equipment.
Male and his co-accused allegedly demanded money for the service, which raised the suspicion from the Industry’s Management who proceeded to report a case at Njeru Police Station before Male was arrested.
He was found with heavy-duty weighing equipment of 300kgs which he purportedly intended to use to calibrate the equipment.
The accused were charged with nine counts of impersonation, forgery, uttering a false statement and unlawful possession and use of weighing equipment.
He was also charged with attempting to put a verification stamp on weighing equipment, a service that is offered by UNBS authorised personnel.
Court was adjourned for hearing to October 29, 2019.
