
KAMPALA – The two recently elected National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidates in both Hoima and Kaabong woman MP by-elections have taken oath of allegiance during Wednsday’s plenary sitting bringing the total number of MPs in the 10th Parliament to 460 members.
Ms Harriet Businge won the hotly contested Hoima seat with 33,301 votes beating her archrival FDC’s Asanansi Nyakato who garnered 28,789 votes and Christine Tubo Nakwang (Kaabong District) with 22,532 votes beating Judith Nalibe Adyaka of FDC who only got only 1,692 out of 26,189 total number of ballot papers counted.
Among the MPs who stood by the two MPs included Mary Karooro and Robinah Nabanja as they took oath amidst ululation from NRM MPs.
Speaker Rebecca Kadaga proceeded by handing the two MPs copies of the constitution, as well as rules of procedure and showed them the side of Parliament they will sit through their tenure.
The two MPs will be gifted with UGX200M each to purchase cars of their choice, an iPad as well as other emoluments other MPs are entitled and await being designated to two committees, both statutory and standing committee by Government Chief Whip, Ruth Nankabirwa before they embark on their legislative duties.
